Thonpa Jampa Khedrup distributed rifles to members of his household during the 1959 uprising in Tibet. Personally fired on the Red Invader from his ancestral home, Labrang Nyingba, near Barkhor. He was killed in action. 

Thonpa Jampa Khedrup was also known as descendent of Thonmi Sambhota, father of the Tibetan alphabet and written language .
