Andrugtsang Gonpo Tashi organised mass displays of Tibetan unity and Resistance , including the gift of the Golden Thorne and Tenshug Shapten, or Long Life Prayer Offerings to the 14th DalainLama on 4 July 1957.
On 16 June 1958, Gonpo Tashi established Tibetan Voluntary Resistance Army, Chushi Gangdrug (Four Rivers and Six Ranges). It fought more than 100 battles against the Chinese forces and controlled parts of southern and eastern Tibet.
In March 1959, Chushi Gangdruk forces escorted the 14th Dalai Lama to the Indian border.
Gonpo Tashi gained support from the United States CIA and in 1960 created a base for resistance fighter in Mustang , Nepal. The Resistance army continued until 1974.
